CONTROLS & WRIST MENU Guide
Controllers
Navigating your avatar in Multiverse VR feels intuitive for those familiar with immersive or console gaming. However, many users are new to both VR and console controls.
If you’ve completed the tutorial, you’ve already learned most of what you need to navigate, interact with objects, access menus, and engage with others in Multiverse. But we understand that it can be a lot to take in, so don’t worry if you need a refresher!
Below, we’ll cover both the essential and advanced controls to help you fully explore and interact within Multiverse.
Moving forwards & backwards (THUMBSTICK)
Your Thumbsticks are used for basic forward and backward movement. Pushing a Thumbstick forward will make your avatar take a step forward. Pushing it backward will make your avatar step backward.
Advanced Controls: Pushing both Thumbsticks forward or backward at the same time will double your movement speed.
WARNING: Pushing the Thumbsticks in opposite directions simultaneously (one forward, one backward) will cause your avatar to step forward and backward rapidly. This is not advised, as it may lead to disorientation.
Turning left & right (THUMBSTICK)
Your Thumbsticks are used for turning. Pushing your Thumbstick left will rotate your avatar left. Pushing your Thumbstick right will rotate your avatar right.
Advanced controls: Pushing both Thumbsticks on both your controllers either forward or backward at the same time will cause you to move at twice the speed.
WARNING: Pushing both Thumbsticks in the opposite direction at the same time will cause you step both forwards and backwards rapidly, and is not advised.
Grabbing objects (GRIP)
The (GRIP) button is used to pick up objects or extract items from your inventory. A wide variety of objects in Multiverse can be grabbed and manipulated simply by reaching out and using the (GRIP) button. Release the button to drop the object.
Advanced Controls: Some objects can be grabbed and resized by using the (GRIP) button with both hands. To stretch or shrink an object, hold it with both hands and either pull them apart or push them together.
Display the Discovery Menu (MENU)
The three-line (MENU) button on your left controller opens the Discovery Menu window. Use the (THUMBSTICK) to navigate through the content and the (TRIGGER) button to select or click. On your right controller, you'll find the Oculus/Meta Menu button.
Physical movement of your hands
Some objects — e.g., the green buttons — can be interacted with, without pressing any buttons whatsoever. Simply reach out with your hand and push the button.
Selfies and Photos / Screenshots (B) or (Y)
Press and hold the (B) button to take a selfie and the (Y) button to take a photo or screenshot. You can grab the photo using the (GRIP) button and share it with other users. When holding loot, press the (B) or (Y) button to send the item to your inventory.
Note: You can view all your photos online on your linked Multiverse account.
Teleporting (A) or (X)
The (A) or (X) button can be used to teleport forward or through doors. Holding down (A) or (X) will display a Teleport Arc from the hand pressing the button. While holding it, you can move your hand to aim the arc at the floor in front of you or at specific objects, such as doors. If the arc appears blue, the destination is valid, and releasing the button will teleport you there. If the arc appears red, the selected location cannot be reached via teleportation. These buttons are also used to “press” browser buttons in some of our templates.
Interact / Click (TRIGGER)
The (TRIGGER) button is used to interact or "click" on objects in Multiverse. Whether it's a button, a link bubble, or the Follow Player option, all can be activated using the (TRIGGER) button. You can also press the (TRIGGER) button to use items like keys or toys.
Advanced Control Schemes (smooth motion)
WARNING: FOR ADVANCED VR USERS ONLY.
While we don't recommend this for any but the most robust VR users, it is possible to adjust your controls in the settings menu. Here you can toggle smooth motion, smooth turning and strafing.
